Shelby was a liver and white shorthair born on October 8, 1996. She was the daughter of the famous male shorthair, Trekker, the most AKC titled German Shorthaired Pointer in history.
By the age of one, Shelby had earned her Show Champion Title (CH). Some of her wins included a Group 4th, Best of Breed, Best Puppy, and she also won several Puppy Sweepstakes. Her first weekend out, Shelby completed two of her qualifiers towards her Field Dog Title. The following spring, in 1998, she finished her Canadian Field Dog Title (FD).
Shelby was a beautiful dog to watch in the field. In the spring of 1999, she earned her Canine Good Citizen Title (CGC). She had just started showing in the United States, in 1999, and her first weekend out acquired two points from a Best of Winners win. We hoped to complete her U.S. Show Champion, when she was not busy being a mom.
Shelby completed her American Senior Hunter Title (Am.SH.) in May 2001, with five qualifiers. She completed her entire Canadian Companion Dog Title (CD) in one weekend on October 29th, 2000. She received two second placements and one third that weekend. Shelby was also working on her Canadian Field Dog Excellent title. She was very capable and it was obviously in her blood to do well at whatever she tackled.
In 2000, Shelby was bred to Wildwing and they produced some very beautiful puppies that were definitely field, show and obedience capable, including Montana, Indy, Shadow, Carson, Yukon, Valentine and Sox. We kept Montana, who became a highly accomplished dog in her own right. You will see some of these dogs out at the show ring and in the field. We repeated this breeding in the spring of 2002 and all the pups were reserved before they were born. The litter was born on April 27th (five male, four female). By popular demand, Shelby had one more litter in March 2004.
Shelby’s life came to a sudden and unnecessary end when someone near our cottage put out poison to kill rodents. Four dogs, including Shelby, came into contact with the poison. They all suffered greatly and died needlessly. Our hearts still ache for the loss of a dear family member who was taken from us in the prime of her life.
